Teachers can only bring out the best in others if they are the best version of themselves. That’s why our programme prioritises the wellbeing of all trainees, from the very start.
Here’s how we support you in your teacher training journey and beyond.
During your training year, you will be assigned not just one but three mentors – each giving tailored support.
A member of United Teaching staff who visits you in your school to check in on your training and how it's going, and to oversee your lesson observations.
A subject expert in your school who supports your subject knowledge development, gives you insight into best practice, and answers any subject-specific questions you might have.
A school-based mentor who supports your overall professional development. You will have regular meetings to keep track of your progress, overcome any obstacles, and learn how you can continue to improve to become the best teacher you can be.
If you are offered a place on our programme, you will receive your confirmed placement details straight away. This means you will know which school you're training in months in advance, avoiding any uncertainty.
As a United Teaching trainee, you will have access to a wide range of high-quality resources to help you with lesson planning and delivery, time management, and day-to-day teaching tasks – all contributing to improved wellbeing and work-life balance.
Working in education, we’re big on lifelong learning. Our ethos is to bring out the best in everyone, and that includes pupils and staff.
A focus on continuous professional development (CPD) helps shape your career – no matter your ambitions. Whether you’re an aspiring leader, looking to develop a specialism, or want to hone a particular skill, we’ll help you develop your strengths and tailor your career progression to suit your goals.
In your training year, you will have a main school where you will spend most of your time and a contrasting school where you will complete a short placement – enabling you to build relationships across schools and in wider education.
But it doesn’t end there. United Teaching is partnered with over 100 schools across the country, giving you:
An INSET day (in-service training day) is a school day with no lessons or pupils in attendance. It gives teachers and other school staff dedicated time for training, team building and other CPD.
Most schools have five INSET days as standard. Trainees who are based in a United Learning school benefit from at least eight INSET days per academic year, with three dedicated to planning.
This additional time to prepare is equally as valuable for your pupils as it is for your wellbeing.
We support you to become the best teacher you can be.
