Funding your teacher training

There are a few different ways to fund your teacher training. Whichever route you take, you will receive the same outstanding quality of training and support throughout your journey.

Salaried teacher training

If you train on our salaried route, you earn an unqualified teacher’s salary from day one and your tuition fees are covered.

The salary you earn depends on where you train.

Location Salary
England (excluding London)

£21,731

London fringe

£23,140

Outer London

£25,758

Inner London

£27,252

Salaried placements are limited and competitive. If you’re set on salaried training, we recommend applying early.

Self-funded teacher training

Unlike salaried training, the self-funded route does not come with a salary, and you will need to cover the costs of your tuition fees (£9,000 for QTS and PGCE, £7,250 for QTS-only).

Financial support is available to help you fund your training including bursaries, scholarships, and maintenance loans.

Teacher training bursaries

Bursaries are tax-free sums of money that do not need to be paid back. You will be automatically assessed for a bursary based on your qualifications.

To qualify, you must hold a degree at 2:2 or higher, a Master’s, or a PhD. The table below outlines the bursary amounts available for different subjects.

Teacher training scholarships

Scholarships are offered by independent institutions and give financial support as well as perks such as access to events, resources and networking opportunities. Just like bursaries, they do not need to be paid back.

To qualify, you must have a degree 2:1 or higher, a Master’s, or a PhD, and meet any specific criteria set by the awarding institution.
