Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship

The Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA) offers schools a way to train teachers using the Apprenticeship Levy.

Trainees work towards a Level 6 Teaching Apprenticeship and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), with the option to add a PGCE.

Apprentice trainee teachers are placed in your classroom from day one. They combine practical teaching experience with specialist training delivered by United Teaching, an Ofsted Outstanding provider working with more than 100 schools across the country.

The programme is suitable for both existing eligible staff, such as graduate Teaching Assistants and new staff placed by United Teaching.

What apprentice teachers gain

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Level 6 Teaching Apprenticeship qualification while earning, with the option to add a PGCE.
  • Access to the same rigorous training as all United Teaching trainees, including the Summer Institute and weekly professional development sessions.
  • An unqualified teacher's salary.

All training fees are funded through the apprenticeship levy.

The apprenticeship route was a very smooth and well-planned route into teaching. From the offset, the process was smooth, welcomingand informative. I felt very supported and was guided through very well.
