Begin your application

Step 1: Check you meet the entry requirements

  • GCSEs: Grade C+ in English language, maths, and science (science is required for Primary trainees only).
  • A Levels: A grade combination of at least BCC, with a minimum Grade B in the subject you want to teach.
  • Degree: A degree in the subject, or relevant to the subject, that you wish to teach, with a Grade 2:2 or above.

Step 2: Apply for a Teacher Training Programme

When you apply, you let us know your preferred school. We then look for the best match, thinking about your subject, the school environment and where you are most likely to do well.

We aim to place you within about an hour’s commute, so your training feels realistic and manageable. You will spend most of the year in your main placement school, where you will be based, teach and build relationships. Alongside this, you will have a three-week placement in a contrasting school. This gives you valuable experience of different approaches and settings.

Applying for a fee-funded route?

This route is suitable for applicants who are not applying for a salaried apprenticeship. Please ensure you meet the entry requirements and check that your chosen subject is available before submitting your application.

Finalising your placement

We’ll be in touch as soon as we can with the outcome of your interview.

United Teaching, as part of United Learning Trust, is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and staff. All staff, including those training to teach, are expected to share this commitment. Every successful applicant who receives and accepts an offer will be required to undergo thorough pre-employment checks. These include: a Children’s Barred List, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, a Medical Questionnaire, and a Prohibition Order check. All prospective trainees will be expected to provide the names of two professional referees who will be able to provide acceptable recommendations.

As soon as these checks are done, your offer will be confirmed.

We always try to place trainees in their first choice of school. If this isn't possible, we will work with you to find a suitable alternative.
